The Stove After the Meal

I did not clean the stove before taking this photo and it was something which felt
important.
The surface has oil splattered across it, a used coffee cup resting on the side, a pot sitting on the burner with something dried at the bottom edge. Some jars are placed nearby the stove, the tea stains on the slip, and all other things which has been used several times today already. There is no one is in the frame. The person who cooked has moved on to serving, or sitting, or something else entirely.
This is what a meal looks like from the other side of it. The dining table looks like rest and conversation. But in contrast the kitchen carries all the visible marks whichnmade this moment possible.But what struck me while taking this photo is that by the time anyone comes back to the kitchen, this surface will be wiped and clean. There will be no evidence that any of
this happened. People think the work erases itself. And because it erases itself so completely, it becomes very easy to ignore this work. So basically this photograph clearly highlights how domestic labour quietly does all the wor
